So if you are maimed in an accident resulting in burns to your face you should get nothing?

Or if your suffer an injury that doesn't stop you working but leaves you in pain for the rest of your life?

Or having been a keen amateur football player, playing from 10yrs old until 32, you are then left unable to ever play again?

No monetary loss, so you'd be happy to have any of these happen to you, even if the other party was totally at fault and was actually driving in a dangerous manner?

But getting back to reality and putting it back into perspective. We are talking about gravel rash and bruising.

They attended hospital at the time and were given the all clear, they even said themselves in the first post that everything was ok.

Now we get the mention of blood clots and assessments for impacts on future health.

It is absolutely ridiculous and I cannot believe that anybody would support this kind of action.

How exactly would money help in any of these cases?

If you need ongoing medical care or support in the home that costs money, the costs of that should be covered for as long as is necessary. Aside from that, how is money going to make someone who has to give up football feel better? It won't make them able to play again.

How would money replace a leg?

If you can still earn the same wage, and can get to work for the same cost - "no harm done" eh?

As a reply to the original question...use a claim specialist or do it yourself withe the driver's insurance.
Much as I hate giving those ambulance chasing parasites more work, I'd say ALWAYS use a specialist. If you try individually to recoup your losses direct from the insurer you'll get nothing but frustration and grief. They'll open your first letter and immediately bin it muttering "loser".

As an aside, my last accident was when I was forced off the road. But in my case it was by another cyclist. Who didn't stop.(You know the type...don't stop at red lights or crossings either). Even if he had there would be nothing I could have done. No proof of ID...even if he had household insurance covering this type of outdoor incident (and people don't realise many policies cover these incidents, so it's not always true to say cyclists have no insurance...they may have but just not know it), there's nothing to prevent him !!!!!!ing off as he did.

My bike was ok, but I had a sprung shoulder which made my job as my wife's carer a little bit awkward for a few weeks.

First offer has been received and solicitor has advised we reject this as it doesn't include cost of replacement wheels, seat, clothing, travel to and from cycle shops to get replacements etc. Had to send in pictures of damaged items.

    Waiting on second offer.

And to think I wasn't going to claim!!!!!!!
  • In my case I went over the bonnet of a car that pulled out in front of me. I had cuts and bruises and the bike was pranged up. I went to the Police, but they didn't want to know.

So I made out a list of the damage and put it through his letter box. A month later I went round there because I hadn't heard anything, and found an empty house after they'd done a bunk. I went back to the Police and asked them for his insurance details but even then it took them a couple of weeks to do a two minute job.

    It's always worth a claim.
I accepted the first offer after I was knocked off my bike(£9000), I hope they don't drop your offer down!

I'd demand to see the most senior police officer at the station. The police are obligated to attend or investigate an RTC that results in injury.

*insert multiple You Tube videos to back up point*

This one is a cracker. I just wish all road users would give each other a little room and apply some understanding of physics.

All sorted. Maybe should have used the Union as they get 100% in your pocket. Solicitor charged £700. He Ho and to think I wasn't going to claim.

Got to love some of the comments on this thread. I suspect if these people got out of their metal box for any period of time their opinion would change.

Fair play to the OP for claiming though - last month I was smashed into by a car that didn't give way to me on a roundabout (national speed limit road). Dumb b*tch said many times she didn't see me, despite wearing high vis clothing and lights. Thankfully she did stop, but I reckon only for witnesses, otherwise she would have drove off like most scumbag motorists would I suspect (seeing as though we're generalising about road users on this thread). I was in hospital with fractured vertebrae, lacerations, shoulder and knee injuries. One of my knees is still painful to move.

I am taking her to the cleaners.

I hope you got the result you wanted and your injuries have healed by now.
