Promoting business on facebook

I want to promote my new etsy shop on facebook but I'm not sure which type of account I will need (I don't have FB at the moment at all.)
Do I just get a regular one and call it by the shop name or do I need a different type of account similar to the one DH has for his band (ie you can 'like' it but there's no time line etc?)
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Hi,
Sounds like you'll want to start a Page on Facebook. (As opposed to a Group or an individual account.) If you start an individual account (actually, I'm not sure what the proper name for this is, but I'm talking about the ones people have for their personal lives which are usually in their own names), then you might find that people who would otherwise 'like' you are put off because they won't necessarily want you seeing all their personal posts (not everyone knows how to limit post visibility.) As far as I know, Pages are especially for businesses.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I agree with Happyclappy. The usual private account wouldn't be helpful in your case.
You should either get a community or a business page. Just have a read through the terms on fb and decide what you need. The differences between the accounts are well explained. ;-)
Hope this helps!

I have a PAGE on FB which I find works well enough. Just keep posting at regular intervals throught the week and include the page address in everything you do (including the posts you make) then you can 'SHARE' it on your own timeline and non page 'LIKERS' know where to go to add the page. Dont get sucked in though to pay for promoting the page it's a waste of advertising and money in my opinion and you could build a better following of dedicated customers by your own hard work.
I always add something allong the lines of "LIKE TAG SHARE" and the /myfacebookpage plus Twitter @ and LinkedIn links to the bottom of all posts and so far its working well enough. I have about 165 followers in around 2 - 3 months (some are my friends I admit but its their choice to be added by themselves as I dont add people to the group without inviting them to do so) so far just doing that and I know their all genuinely interested and more than likely repeat followers and paying customers.
Good luck

Just to clarify you will need to join with a normal 'personal' account and then choose to start a page - which you can then call whatever you like. You can't have a page without a personal account for it to be linked from. As mentioned you can then invite your friends to like it, put the link on any others sites you have etc.
I would also disagree that facebook promotion doesn't work. I don't do it constantly but I use it mainly for my author page and if I have a new release or am running a special offer then I find even putting a very small budget promotion on the posts can triple my reach or higher. You can also tailor your promotion to specific age-groups, locations or even people who have stated particular interests.0 -

The original question has been answered, so I'll stick with the quoted post above.
We use Facebook ads as a way of getting something exceptional into press circles, and it seems to work for us (I'm in the music industry). We've also used it to sell blocks of contracts that have more potential, but we can't do anything more with, and again, this has proven to be worth its while, in targeting the music industry.
OH also uses it to target Russian speaking persons in London for her own company, and again, this has turned a loss-making company (we bought for £1, taking on £200k of debt) into a company that I've got about half of the £300k I put into it, back in less than a year. Partly through Facebook, and possibly partly through word of mouth.
Facebook can be your best friend, or your worst enemy.

Thank you all. I tried getting a normal page but using the company name as my name and it told me off and to get a business page which I've done, seemingly without having a normal one too??
I haven't done anything with it yet, it'll be to promote my etsy page (for which I'm still busy making stuff to populate the shop before going live.)
Not being a facebook user at all I have no idea what to do next, can anyone help, please? Can I post on other people's pages with it even if they're not my 'friends'? The product will be music-related paintings and ideally I'd like to be able to post on fan pages.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Hi,
There are profiles and then there are pages. Profiles are more for personal use - you can add people as friends and only then can you post on their personal timeline, see their personal information and depending on their privacy setting you may only be able to see what they are posting if you are friends with them.
For pages, which are more for businesses, they are public so anyone can see what they post. If you 'like' them then their posts will come up in your timeline but either way you can post on their pages and see their information.0
