Try downloading cpu-z to find out what motherboard you have.
http://www.cpuid.org/index.php It's 250K zipped and very useful. There are trends that develop over time. Certain motherboards with certain branded components exhibit a predictable pathology.
Check you large cylindrical capacitors on your motherboard. If they are distorted, blistered, then you may have found the cause of the problem.
