They only need to show their details on the domains whois if their domain is generating an income, if their site is just for information and has nothing that links to generating income then they can have their details hidden.
but i would never deal with a business that hides their details in a whois search even if the site is just for information.
this only applies to .uk domains as this is what Nominet control.
Nominet is not a business registration service.
.com and other TLDs are governed by ICANN0 -
Does advertising lets say on a website not generate income?
It bugs me when a company have UK Individual on the registration. That and a gmail email address will have me moving onto the next company.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
yes according to Nominet, even placing a banner on the site can say you are making an income. i fell foul of this with a forum i set upforgotmyname wrote: »Does advertising lets say on a website not generate income?
I set up a dolphin based site that i had set the domain to opt out of showing details in whois and set this so anyone could not add and adverting signatures etc.
I added a small banners for the local air ambulance which my business supports, this linked to their donation page, but then i got an email from Nominet to say they i cannot opt out of whois as to them the site was commercial as it was generating an income. i asked them to tell me where they think the income is coming from and they stated it was the banner so they have instructed the registrar to opt me back in and disable the feature so i could not opt out.forgotmyname wrote: »It bugs me when a company have UK Individual on the registration. yes this turns me off a commerce site, but not just saying they are a UK Individual but when they state they are a NON Trading UK Individual0
