Halifax Switching service

Incentive being £100 credit to account but here's the problem, they will close down my current existing account if I switch and I don't want that.

Few days ago, I opened an account with them to avail of the £5/month interest and then was briefed by the advisor about the switching service and I told them I was adamant in keeping my current account open if I switch to which he told me they have that option to keep it opened, they don't have to close it.

I took the decision to switch, went in today to be informed that now that I am an existing customer (as I opened it few days ago), if I use the switching service now they would have to close my existing current account. Has anyone any experience with the switching service and do I need to have my old account closed during the switch to avail of the offer?

thanks

  • I switched mine in branch. At the end she asked me if I wanted to close the old current account. I asked "Oh, I thought that was necessary to qualify for the £100 switching bonus?". She said "no, but you won't need that account...". Closed it anyway, rather than quibble, but I'm confident its not required based on this.
