Santander Bank charges.

Hi Guys

Just wanted professional advice, or just someone who knows the ins and outs of bank charges.

I recently had a problem with my bank whereby money mysteriously went missing, just so happened to be shortly before my monthly payments were due to go out, as I didn't have time to make alternative arrangements, Direct debits were missed.

This resulted in my getting bank chargers, however here's the problem. The DD's were missed, a few days later i get the usual letter, blah blah blah, however on these letters it stated 'You will receive notification 2 weeks before charges will be taken from your account' The problem I have is that the notification of the chargers being taken was never received, (I get my letters electronically via online banking, and I've gone through the letters over and over, but nothing is there)

At the end of the month I checked the account balance to find they'd taken the chargers, now I know I'd got chargers but I was never told when they'd be taken, can I claim these charges back, or even challenge the bank as to why 'notice of payment due' was not received.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Consider white-listing the sender if possible.

Who do you think is to blame if your systems prevent you from receiving certain electronic communications?

It's not the bank that sends you the advance notice of a DD being taken, but the Originator (e.g. retailer, service provider, etc)

i dont know about santander but often charges are included in with the statement and not in a separate notification.

Whoops, I may have misunderstood the OP

I thought by "charges", the OP was referring to the value of the DD's

Reading dunstonh's post, I now see it probably refers to bank charges incurred due to non payment of the DD and/or a exceeding an overdraft limit.

    I agree with dunstonh.

However still check your spam filters & your deleted box.
Consider white-listing the sender (in this case the bank) if possible.

Ultimately, if you are not comfortable with managing your account online, ask the bank to change it back so you don't have to rely on online banking :)
