Wrag group with no medical

Got my notification today, I have been put in th wrag group without any assesment. I have been on IB since 1990, and want to know if anybody can help, I feel that as I cannot stand/walk without my crutches, and then it is painfull that I should be in the support group.
What do I do next?

JacciD, so you have had this decision from filling in an E50 form and received their decision placing you in the WRAG?

This happened to me and I too was worried about it. It would be an idea for you to phone them up and request the 'medical report' they have written from the form you filled in and based their decision. This is what I did first and they will quite happily send it out to you within days. When you read their MEDICAL REPORT you will be able to see if they have written anything that is untrue or you disagree with.

Then you must weigh up your options, if you wish to appeal (make sure you send it within the given time) you must consider that the outcome could be worse! For me I did appeal and four months later I received a letter stating that they had reconsidered their decision and placed me in the support group.

Having said that, it is five months since I received their decision placing me in the support group and I have just received another E50 form for me to fill in again for reassessment! They can send out a re-assessment form at any time, so remember that if they did place you in the support group that isn't the end of it!!

You can in principle appeal - however, it is important to realise that being able to walk is now no longer a requirement for ESA.
If you can reasonably use an unpowered wheelchair, in most cases, that will qualify for the 'mobilisation' part.

    Page 25 -
    1. Mobilising unaided by another person with or without a walking stick, manual wheelchair or other aid if such aid is normally, or could reasonably be worn or used.
    Cannot either:
    (a) mobilise more than 50 metres on level ground without stopping in order to avoid significant discomfort or exhaustion; or
    b) repeatedly mobilise 50 metres within a reasonable timescale because of significant discomfort or exhaustion.

If you can do both of these - and you can move between adjacent chairs safely, reliably, without help, then you do not qualify for the support group (on these grounds).

Read carefully all the other descriptors to see if you qualify.

If you can get medical evidence on specific points that address this, then this would be useful.
For example, if you have arthritus in one elbow badly, it may be unreasonable for you to use a unpowered wheelchair.

If you have significant savings, or other household income, then come one year in the work-related group, payment may stop.

Thank you. I have requested a statement of reason. So will see what that has to say first. I cannot move between chairs without help. Cannot get. Up from a chair without help mostofthe time either. I will ask for a reconsideration I guess.
