Thank you so much I'm not sure why I was having such a problem but it must be my numerous health problems as all I found were sites that further invited me to pay to join type of things.

My only problem will be to steer clear of my normal humour in case it causes offence :rotfl:

I would suggest you avoid anything too personal, too "old" (i.e. the guests simply won't get what your jokes are about), any toilet humour, or anything too cliched.

Also make sure that you thank the right people and make the correct toasts - see below

    Good luck!

I'm not a father of the bride...but I was a bride who's father gave the most beatiful heartfelt speech at our wedding.

A lot depends on what sort of relationship you have with your daughter but in essence for me it was about my dad speaking from the heart and leaving the jokes to the best man!

My dad shared a little of me growing up and as parents they had seen me grow into the person I had become....he made reference to how I met my husband and how him and my mum saw us going forward.

the most special thing was that my dad also hand wrote his speech out and gave me a copy in an envelope afterwards as a keepsake,as he said it was something I could read again....I cannot tell you how grateful I was that he did that...its a treasured possession now!

Make it heartfelt and let it reflect the special bond you have

    Good luck on the day!

Speak from the heart and you can't go far wrong, there will be many sites on what you should say, who to thank etc., be funny in parts, serious in others.
Keep it shortish and not too embarrassing for the bride.

Wow thank you all so much for the advice especially LEJC for making a copy & passing it on to my daughter. When I used to work (now retired ill health) I was used to public speaking to small & large groups but this one will take a lot more preparation & thought.

There is a chance I will not be able to go to the wedding as it is 5 hours drive & I really am in pretty poor health so my wife will be practising the speech in case she has to deliver it on the day.

    Again thank you all.

Is it possible for you to record your speech and the either have it played back at the reception or given to your daughter at a later date (as a keepsake) if you are unable to attend?
