Keys for children?

My son had a key just before he turned 10 and starting coming home on the bus. He is so messy, forgetting things at people's house all the time, but he hasn't yet lost his key, 12 months later.0

How is he with patterns? Could he memorise the "shape" of the code on the keypad?
Otherwise, what about fixing a key into his bag somewhere so that he would only need to get it out when it was needed rather than having it in a pocket.0 -
My son has had one since he started secondary school last year, he gets back half hour before I do.
His is attatched to a long piece of string which is attatched to the inside zip of his bag, no losses so far.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -

Possibly that could work, he is much better with visual things like patterns.
How do they affect your insurance having a key kept outside?0 -
Oh, and I paid for the first sets on the proviso that if they lost them they replaced them out of their pocket money. Funnily enough they never haveAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

No effect on my parents' insurance at all.
I put one up for them when they started to have carers coming to the house and struggled to answer the door for them.0 -

That's a great idea!0 -
I am awful for losing and forgetting keys, so I have my door key on a keyring which is permanently attached to an extendable cord clipped on the inside of my rucksack. Might be one way to go if you are worried about it getting lost.
