fixed penatly notice - unallocated card payment

Hi

wondered if anyone had experienced this.

Basically i got a fixed penalty notice ticket for parking on a street near my local train station, I knew I shouldnt have so I paid the money straight away.

This is where the problems start.... The guy who wrote the ticket wrote it wrong and didnt give me enough numbers so I could pay it straight away, this led to a few phone calls between depts within the police force to tell me what the actual numbers should be. So I paid the ticket on the 26/6 and it went through fine (well I thought it did)

now roll on to the 11th Sept and I received a cheque for £30 back saying unallocated card payment, ive checked the numbers on the sheet and the numbers on the cheque letter and they match, it ends it 282 which isnt on my ticket letter so im guessing this is the a generic end they put on.

I have contacted the HM who sent me the cheque and they cant help me and I have contacted the police force who wrote it and they just keep putting me through to a dept that never answers or says too busy call back.

Im worried now that its now gone unpaid and its going to cause one hell of a problem!! trying not to panic!!!

any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Katy

Keep a record of everything, including the envelope containing the cheque and use that to defend yourself should this be followed up.

Keep proof of the payment and the date it was made. A copy of your Credit Card statement should suffice.

    Don't cash the cheque yet.

Don't chase up a response. You have already done enough. Keep a record of your phone calls or emails etc. so far.

If you hear nothing for many months then your conscience should dictate whether to cash the cheque or not.

    I know what I would do. :D
