How long have they said it would take?
Are the down lights LED's
Any mention of changes to or new fuse board?
Seems high, but without seeing the job....
Why not get another price??0 -
^^^ what he said! 16 decent LED's will get you £500 of that straight away, if they're putting in a run of 4mm armoured for a garden there's another £3-400..... it easily mounts up!!0

I live in a London suburb, so used to London prices, but that seems pretty high to me. I'd expect a whole house rewire for about £1k more.
Have you queried the price with them? As another poster mentions, do try to get at least one more quote.
Also as far as fittings such as sockets, lights etc. go, it may be cheaper to source your own & only pay for labour & the wiring. This is what I tend to try to do as there is no mark up on such things that way.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

.....and can often be fools gold, too.
If you buy, let's say, 20 sockets for your project you'll pay high street (internet/whatever) prices.
If I supply you with those same sockets, it'll be 20 units coming off from my trade discount structure based on me buying 2,000 units over the course of the year.... so even if I do stick a modest 20% or whatever on them, you're still getting them massively cheaper than you could elsewhere!
AND....if sparky supplies a duff or wrong unit it's their fault - if you supply it it's their chargeable time to come back and swap it over again!
When will people actually get it into their heads that not everyone is out to rip them off?!!0 -
Thanks for the replys.
The spark actually came round last night as he wanted to explain the bill after fearing I may question it. There is a lot more work involved here than I first realised. I guess there is a reason why I do what I do and leave electrical work to the experts. I now feel comfortable that this is the correct price for the work.
As RockingIt puts it ... not everybody is a cowboy. I have used these guys before and trust them. Sticking to tradespeople you know and trust is my no.1 golden rule in this game0 -
I was  on first read, but I guess being London and a big job (going by your last post) explains it. I paid £2250 to rewire my whole house!0
