Hello.

I have an Astra hatchback and it was bought new in August 2010 and is due it's 1st MOT in 2 weeks time.
I have noticed that the rear wiper was not cleaning as good as it should do so on inspection noticed the rubbers have perished at either end.
Can somebody tell me how you take the wiper off so i can replace it.

Thank you.

  • If you can not work out how to take a wiper blade off, I would ask the garage to do it, you will end up breaking something else.
    Be happy...;)

^^ Not much you can break (except maybe the old blade) :p

Usually at the end of the wiper arm there's a U shaped loop, the wiper clips into this and normally has a small plastic clip which needs to be pressed whilst pushing the blade toward the wiper arm. It might take some force and might completely break the old wiper blade (but who cares?).

When doing this, DO NOT let the wiper arm snap down against the glass, else you'll be replacing that too.

  • Boohoo, hate to break this to you but you're driving a car with no MOT.

Well there's one thing for starters :rotfl:
  • BTW join the Vauxhall Masterfit Club and get your MOT half price at the main dealers, ask them to fit the rear blade while you are there, it's about £5-£6 with the Masterfit discount card.

If it's the same as the Vectra, there is no loop but a V shaped part to attach the blade arm to the arm, these V shaped parts break very easily due to ageing plastic. So it could need a new arm to the motor as well as the blade and arm. But the arm to the motor can also corrode, a pig to get off and not damage the glass.

Never replaced mine, it could do with changing but I never really use it.

    Thanks for the replies.

OddballJamie i am not driving without a MOT as car was ordered in August but registered in September.
I am a member of Masterfit but i was told MOT will be £37.50 but i dont know what the full price for a MOT is these days.
The car is also going for its 3 year service so it wont be a cheap day for me.
  • Leave a wiper blade on the passenger seat and ask them to fit it when they do the MOT and service. For a bit of rubber on a metal stick, they can be a right 'mare to charge

So you ordered it in August and bought it in September, good to know you're legal.

The MOT is £27.42, don't let them tell you different, your club card entitles you to half price MOTs and 15% off servicing. If yours is a petrol expect to be paying £129 for the three year service, I paid this amount on September 2nd for my service at my local Vauxhall main dealer including the warranty renewal inspection. I also brought an Astra in September 2010 ;).
