Disconnecting bath - Isolation valve?

Hi
I am replacing a bathroom and have disconnected a sink which was very easy with the isolation valves.
I am now trying to do the bath - the pipes are much wider than the standard 15mm pipes must be 22 or 28 i guess and also it had on there what looked like an isolation valve which i tried to turn to stop the water supply but unfortunately it is very tight and does not turn
is this because it is old and need some force or because it is not an isolation valve - if it is the former then any ideas to get this turning and if the latter i guess i need to turn of all water supplies and then disconnect and fit an isolation valve before turning the water back on - please see attached image of valve and pipes - any help appreciated

it is an isolation valve, but if you live in a hard water area, they can freeze up. If you turn it and it keeps turning, or you can't turn it at all, you've had it.
They'll be 22mm pipes unless it's very old pipework, in which case it'll be 3/4 inch. More likely to be 22mm though.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
ok thanks - i guess i need to turn off main water supply and also drain the system by pulling up the ball in the tank in the attic to stop water filling up the tank and then disconnect from the taps - i assume i can then fit a new isolating valve before turning on water supply
i have an old back boiler with a plastic tank in the ceiling that fills up and i assume supplies the hot water
i wanted to remove the bath and get all the tiles off and the room ready before the tilers and plumber came in to install the new bathroom0 -
also with regards to the waste pipe- there is an extension to the existing waste pipe where a pipe has been attached to extend it- i cant seem to remove this- are these usually glued together or just click in place- i suppose i will need to saw it off and then the plumber can connect a new piece when installing the new bath etc or can i twist and remove the waste pipe extension?0

Regarding the waste pipe, there are a number of different connectors. The grey one in your picture looks like it would be glued (or solvent welded) together, rather than push-fit.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Ok thanks if the waste pipe is glued then I assume I need to saw it off and the reattach a new one where required0

Remove the waste pipe at the hand fitting nearest the bath - the white knurled one at the bottom of pic.
Leave cutting back the pipe to the fitter(s), if you're not fitting yourself, to leave them flexibility.0 -
You need to know the size of the pipe where you're replacing the iso valve - you'll get a 22mm valve from plumber's merchant or DIY shed, and you can get 22mm olives to match, but if it's a 3/4inch pipe, you'll need 3/4 olives ('green olives'?)0
