Parking ticket received - with badly displayed sign

I've got a parking ticket
There was a sign showing the times of restriction
This sign is partially covered. It looks as though someone has stuck a white piece of A4 paper over it - part of the underlying original sign can still be seen (it has been like this for years)
See this image:

The yellow line I was parked on was broken to pieces and only barely visible
My appeal has been rejected because there were yellow vertical lines clearly marked on the pavement curb - this is true
I still want to appeal because it was a badly displayed sign
Someone else has said to me that if the yellow line is broken, then ALL restrictions are invalid
I'll be honest, I only parked there because I thought the yellow lines were almost invisible because they had been worn down.
Question: if there is a sign sowing parking restrictions + yellow vertical lines on pavement curb but no yellow line... is the restriction valid?
Would like to hear some feedback
Thanks
JJ

If this is just a piece of paper that's been there years as OP indicates how's it stayed so clean and dry and crisp?0

The yellow markings on the kerb were clearly visible. You admit so you knew not to park there or stop to unload.
The no loading time is clearly visible also.
