Hi, is that the original email they sent, or the follow up one?
TBH, I would also be suspicious of this. That doesn't mean I would be sure it was a scam, but I think you are right to hesitate.
Suggestion, how about your repost your question on Comping Chat Corner? More people may see it there. If you do, include the original email and ask what peeps think. There are plenty here with a lot of experience and my guess is that someone will spot whether it's likely to be genuine or a scam. Meanwhile, I recommend playing it safe and not sending any details/info. Wait until you feel confident that it's safe.
Fingers crossed that it's for real and a proper win.

Hi just received this email from Mike the original emailer
Passport details are required for the security of the ship. Allowing people to board without having the details of who is coming in advance, and them having identification with them, would pose too many risks. It is standard procedure for all ship visits, regardless of who is boarding. Even the staff at Dover harbour have to have identification at all times if they are to go on board.
With regard to the day’s visit it will include a guided tour of the ship and also drinks and lunch on board so you will have an opportunity to see what the ship is like and to test out the food, drink and service, which I am sure will be up to their usual high standards.
Nilo is organising quite a number of visitors on that day, including travel trade people, and so she needs to get all the details together to finalise the arrangements in one go.So what anyone think I thank you all for your replies:j0 -
I would send a photocopy etc of passport but very important black out passport number so it can NOT be read.
You should be fine like that I have had to do it before for legit comps but you must Black out that numberMAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR0 -
Hi OP,
I used to work as a travel agent and was often invited onboard for visits like these. I was always required to provide passport details as you do go through a security gate before boarding - even if you don't leave the dock!
Hope you enjoy your prize, they're usually a really fab day!0 -
Hi -
I work for a construction company and we are working at an airport at the moment - if we are working airside and visiting site (even only as an admin for a meeting) we have to provide full passport details before being allowed access and we have to scan/email the details 24hour before visiting!
I would guess this is similar procedure for the ship!
Congrats on your win and enjoy
