Do you buy second hand games/consoles?

  • With the likes of Big Titles (CoD, FIFA, GTA etc) I buy new as the price for second hand is around the same in some places. As for other titles, I will buy pre-owned and have no problems. mainly buy from Game, CeX and Grainger Games

  • I have bought all my current stuff (console and games) second hand. It's great, it means I don't pay and sort of premium and can usually sell the games on for what I pay for them. I tend to buy games a long time after they are released though so they have done all their price dropping.

I am not sure what the big deal is with second hand consoles. My £99 PS3 from game was a bargain and is fine.

I prefer to buy second hand, usually from CEX. I mostly game on my PC though so it's always the Steam sales - rarely you can find cheaper PC games on the high street.

Bought a couple of Xbox games from CEX and had problems with them playing, took it back and they replaced them.
  • I'd say 50% of my games are pre-owned. I wouldn't buy a pre owned console though.

I bought my first second hand game the other day, Zelda the phantom hourglass. Paid half the cost of a brand new copy and it is literally in MINT condition!

The person I bought it from looks after things like me, every single booklet, not a mark on the box/case...

I'd never buy a second hand console mind you and would still probably continue to buy 'new games'.
  • I bought a 2nd hand Nintendo Wii for £40.
Has worked out pretty good. No way would I pay the £127 new.

When I sell things, I do take care of it trying not to use things I don't need like phone headphones.
  • I've bought a helluva lot of stuff second hand over the years (I tend to collect things like various formats of Final Fantasies) - only ever had one dodgy reading disc on me over time. It's been our brand new consoles that have had issues (we've had both our Xbox and PS3 in for warranty repairs in the past) - not the second hand playstation, PSone and PS2 we've got kicking about the house.

If it's something I really want I'll pick it up brand new release day - otherwise I'll wait a week or so and get it second hand. I don't like only owning digital copies of stuff though, prefer having a physical disc to hand.

I'm into the retro gaming thing so it's almost a given that any games/consoles I buy are second hand. That said I'm lucky enough to have been raised into a family of electronics geeks so I tend to restore any equipment that's seen better days.

I currently have a box of faulty Sega Game Gears tucked away in my kitchen. I repaired/restored one for myself and another one for my 15 year old son with another 5 or 6 left to work on when I have a spare couple of hours.

Anything that's beyond repair (will cost too much or too badly damaged for it's worth) ends up becoming something else, like the copy of Yars' Revenge for the Atari 2600 I recently had come my way with a burnt out IC, it's now a wall clock...

most games i buy now are for the PC via steam. But then they are mostly bought in the sales where they are cheaper than you can get them second hand anyways.

my Xbox 360 was bought 2nd hand, and have bought quite a few console games in the past, not really had any problems with them.
