Faulty baby monitor over 12 months old

I have a Lindam video baby monitor that is about 18 months old. It seems to have developed a fault with the connection point where the charger plugs in to the parent unit, it seems very loose and like it hasn’t connected properly. It won’t charge up at all, and doesn’t work when plugged in either. The battery is now dead so I can’t use the monitor at all. I emailed Lindam to ask if they have a repair centre or similar where I can get it repaired.

I received the following response:
Unfortunately this is not a part that can be repaired or replaced. The monitor is also out of the 12 month warranty period.
I am sorry we are unable to help you on this occasion.

Is there anything else that I can do or is that it? It cost about £120 so I expected it to last for longer than this.

You should approach the retailer. The SOGA allows 6 years (5 in Scotland) in which to ask for redress if an item develops a fault. As the unit is over 6 months old, you'll need to demonstrate via an independent report that the fault isn't due to reasonable wear and tear or misuse. If successful, the retailer should reimburse you any costs you've incurred in getting this report.

Think about what outcome you want. If the item is not able to be repaired, is it reasonable to have the entire unit replaced? You've had 18 months use. Similarly any refund you might be offered will take into account this use and you won't receive the full amount.

I'm not sure how successful you'll be but it's worth a go - back to the retailer.
