Storing itunes on separate hard drive

Our PC is full of stuff. Have had a sort out and deleted files but the main thing that is clogging it is itunes with all hubby's music etc. Given that effectively this is a back up rather than something we actually use is there a way to have itunes stored on a separate hard drive (I already have a suitable one) so we just back up to there instead of on pc.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can store your music on a different drive.
A quick google should give you a procedure to follow.
  • I do this, works a treat. USB external drive for iTunes and photographs. Great space saver.

Just plug in your drive, create a directory (if you want), change your Preferences to be the new target drive/directory and then save settings.

    Make sure iTunes is closed.
Cut and paste the iTunes folder from inside My Docments - My Music into the new location you want to keep it in. Might take a while!
Now, open iTunes but hold the shift key whilst doing it - this allows you to open a 'different' library, and you point it to the new location, it'll open that one from now on. Everything will be as you left it.
