There is still a Defined benefit pension for the NHS, to new joiners.
It may go to Average salary over final, but this benefits the larger number of employees who don't gain the heady heights of management. and is better than anything you can do with your own paltry contributions so pay no mind to the post above.0 -
Not saying not to join but doctors do not get a final salary pension if they join now- career average it is now. Believe me I wish it wasn't the case either but we went on strike over exactly this issue. But you are right it's still a pretty good pension and better than anything you can get privately0

There you go a link from the spineless union

Not interested in spineless unions or ones with spines, thanks. Seen too many instances of them looking to their own pockets over their members.
I encourage any doctor to join the pension, sorry it isn't as great as the old one was, but whose is nowadays?0 -
Thanks for the advice re: pension - could anyone give any advice about reclaiming my professional fees and equipment? Does this need to go via a tax return or can I do this over the phone?
Thanks,

Don't need to do a tax return. Find form P87 on the HMRC website- this is for past tax years so you won't be able to send it off till afterApril next year. Alternatively give them a call so they can ammend your current tax code. Bare in mind your professional fees will go up a lot once you are SHO so you'll need to let them know that next year... it really only takes 10min to fill that form in so well worth the effort0

If ever starting a family is in your choices, then, you have to prepare for it. I am not sure how your personal life goes but most people want it this way. I say you enjoy your personal time with your personal money first and then build a home that could probably house your family in the future.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
