First game was die hard on the playstation and I was actualy 18, was my first console, believe it was an 18.0 -
NoThere were no official age ratings for games back then but the odd game would offer a content advisory message not all that different to music CDs today.
That's what I was thinking, but couldn't remember for sure.I dug out a copy of Resident Evil for the Playstation 1 a few weeks back and my youngest (11) wanted to take a look at it. On the cover the age rating was "Mature 17+" and remembering the "This game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore" message on load I told him that he couldn't.
After he left the room I fired it up and to be fair, it wasn't as bad as some of the cartoons I've seen on TV and certainly nowhere near as violent or gory as the likes of GTA so I let him come watch.
He lost interest after a couple of minutes anyway.
lol. I do think the graphics make a big difference, although I wouldn't let a 6 year old see a game such as that. Not so bad for an 11 year old though.0 -

NoFirst 18 game I played was when I was 13/14 and it was The Getaway. My parents knew what it was and would have been in the room while I was playing it. I didn't play the game properly though, I did the car chase at the start then drove off elsewhere. Basically drove around, stole the tank and blew up some cars, and found some better hidden cars. Might have ran some people over, but I don't remember it being graphic or anything. Unlike GTA there's no bad language while driving around or anything.
It was much later when I played GTA:SA and I don't think I played any other 18 game. I also don't really remember playing it much when I first got it at that age either, I think I've played it far more since the age of 15+. Sure if it had it been more graphic my parents wouldn't have let me play it at that age - don't think I'd have wanted to play it anyhow if that had been the case.0 -
Yeswell tbh i cant see the problem, a computer game is not goin to make a 6 year old go out and actually shoot someone in real life, how many 6 year olds would have access to a real gun anyway???? not many in my opinion, and as for GTA with the sexual content, 5 year olds are gettin taught sex education in our school!! obviously i think that is wrong and they shouldnt be allowed to play that for that reason, but with the bad language all this will of been heard before in the school play ground, in freinds homes, on the tv, everywhere! you cant wrap your kids up in cotton wool in this day and age its just the way it has eveolved, hearin a swear word is not the end of the world, aslong as the kids arnt swearin in real life, pinchin cars and shotting people outside whats the problem? and if they are then something is wrong with the kid, not one in the right frame of mind would shoot someone especially a 6 year old. and surely a computer game can not make or encourage a kid to do this!0

Whether or not it encourages kids to do that (personally I do not think it does), I still don't think a child should be subjected to adult content. Kids do have a habit of repeating words they hear, especially if they think it's a bad word - they find it funny to keep saying it.
I know you hear swearing all the time and you can't wrap kids up in cotton wool (nor should you to that extreme), but I don't think people should swear when children are around anyway.
There are plenty of other games they can play, why give them one with adult content?0 -

I was going to reply to this, instead I will sit at my desk with my head in my hands wondering what the f**k happened to the human race.0 -
NoI voted no but not for the reasons being quoted > I don't want my online experience ruined by kids. I dont actually care whether the game is suitable or not for kids, I just hate games online being ruined by whiny little kids, screaming, shouting and being generally douche bags all the way through a game. Sure some adults can be as bad but the vast majority of poor behaviour online I experience, is kids.
Given a large part of GTA Online is going to rely on maturity, teamwork, planning and co-operation, I'd much rather play with adults rather than kids.0 -
NoIt's a good point. CoD was ruined by 11 year old squakers.0
