Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto: Would you let your 6 year old play?

NoI have a 9 year old and a 2 year old. I wouldn't let either of them play 18 rated games until they are at least 16, provided I deem them to be mature enough.
I see parents in Game shops, and the like, buying their 10/11/12 year old kids Call of Duty, GTA etc. and it really annoys me. The parent clearly has no experience of gaming, and I would bet doesn't have any knowledge of the game content, so I doubt would monitor little Johnnies gaming, preferring to let them get on with it in their bedroom. The "anything for a quiet life" type of parent.0 -

The question does not state: "would you let your 6 year old play the part in GTA San Andrea where you see heavy drug use and swearing?" it also doesn't state "would you let your 6 year old play the part in GTA San Andreas where you cycle to the top of a mountain?"
So I really can't answer.
Originally the question had no conditions other than them being supervised, it was simply would you allow a 6 year old to play the game as it is. Unfiltered. So allowing them to kill, see blood, drive around, volume up etc.0 -

NoI'm curious as to when the first time was that any of you played an 18 game and which game it was.0

NoI started gaming with the Spectrum, it wasn't really an issue back then.0

Same. Well I played some Spectrum games, actually own an Amstrad lol. Not sure if any games had an age rating on? I could go check but I can't be bothered :P
I moved onto the PS1 a few years after that, but none of the games I had had the covers with them so I had no idea of the age ratings, but I wasn't bothered about playing the more violent games anyway. I mostly played skateboarding and racing games.0 -
NoI think the scariest game I played at the time was Doom.0

There were no official age ratings for games back then but the odd game would offer a content advisory message not all that different to music CDs today.Flyonthewall wrote: »I moved onto the PS1 a few years after that, but none of the games I had had the covers with them so I had no idea of the age ratings, but I wasn't bothered about playing the more violent games anyway. I dug out a copy of Resident Evil for the Playstation 1 a few weeks back and my youngest (11) wanted to take a look at it. On the cover the age rating was "Mature 17+" and remembering the "This game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore" message on load I told him that he couldn't.
After he left the room I fired it up and to be fair, it wasn't as bad as some of the cartoons I've seen on TV and certainly nowhere near as violent or gory as the likes of GTA so I let him come watch.
He lost interest after a couple of minutes anyway.0 -
Except for having a laugh at my old fave "How to be a Complete B***ard!"..Gordon_Hose wrote: »I started gaming with the Spectrum, it wasn't really an issue back then.0

NoI felt rather concerned to see someone ask if it's OK to let a six year old play Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty. But I despair of humanity when I see people have actually come to try and justify why it IS all right to let six year olds play these 18 rated violent games with foul language and the murder of prostitutes. amongst other similar scenarios Words fail me..........!!! :wall:
In answer the the original poll question: NO, I most certainly would NOT let a six year old play these games.0
