Nowould you let a 6 yr old watch a 18 movie?
i personally would not and the same applies here in my opinion.
Also a game is more immersive as you actually do the things and initiate actions which is worse than just watching it.0 -

Exactly!!!I started playing GTA when the first one came out..I was around 10/11 I think. I played it with my older (by three years) sister and our parents never sat with us
Do I or have I ever had urges to go out steal cars, rob stores, kill people and everything else now at the age of 26? No!
The only problem with your reasoning there is that the game was very different back then! Top-down, not a lot of graphic violence, whereas now - well, if you've played the recent one you'll know what I mean!! I love the game, it's just not suitable for a kid! Thanks to all posters :A0 -
NoIts not the graphics that determine its influence really, they used to ban books and I think they can be far more involving0

Some people have little imagination though or just don't picture it how it's written whereas watching a movie or playing a game doesn't require any imagination to be able to see 18+ themes.
Although I suppose there are books with some horrible images in. I seem to remember seeing some horrible images in books at school in a history lesson (war images and so on). Most books don't have images though.0 -

I played the original GTA too. But the realism and graphics were nothing like that of today. See the screenshot here -
I don't think you can compare that on the same level of realism as games today.0 -
NoI am disappointed in the 10 people on here that feel it's OK to let minors play an adult rated game.Unlike the British Government, I actually learn from my mistakes . . .0

Its about context, a game like GTA can boost a kids ego and make violence seem cool but that does not mean they want to stab or shoot someone but its fine to challenge authority and do wrong kids are "smart" enough to know when to get what they want by twisting parents around their finger but not smart in the sense of age and knowledge content.
I think say its ok for a cartoony game like Lego Batman to be played by a 6 year old as to them its just button bashing cartoon and its not linked to reality, a more violent game like Injustice I see correctly as teenage as its mature content.
GTA in the right hands can be played by a 12 year old if its about playing a good game rather than the violence which most kids play because of it.
When I was about 11 I remember seeing a clip of Monty Python and the Holy Grail and wanting to throw up with the comic beheading scene or a clip from Scanners where peoples heads expand it made me physically sick but I could play Mortal Kombat age 12 no problem as its was about the gameplay and story to me and fatalities were more just proof i was good at the game or a quick giggle at a silly scene like a arcade cabinet landing on someones head or someone turning into a baby.0 -
NoHad a conversation with my partners friend about this the other day which resulted in her walking out.
Her 7 year old son is having a PS4 and Call of duty Ghosts for Christmas but she refuses to let him play or have GTA5 because of the 'sex part'...0 -
I have played GTA since I was 8, my younger brother has played it since he was quite younger than me!
Its done neither of us any harm..0
