Windows Live Essentials

Hopefully someone can help me. I have been using Windows Live Essentials to store emails from several different email accounts. My computer has decided to crash everytime I try and open up the software for WLE and so I am unable to back up my emails.

Does anyone out there know where these emails are stored on my hard drive? I've scoured the net and not had much joy.

Thanking you in anticipation.

When I run my PC in safe mode it doesn't crash but I cannot access WLE from safe mode.

cheers

  • Windows Vista and 7

    C:\Users\ logon \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

    Windows XP

    C:\Documents and Settings\ logon \Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

logon is your USER name folder
  • Thanks for your reply. I do not have the Microsoft bit of that file location. I now believe that the netgear wireless adapter is causing my computer to crash so without that plugged in it seems to run. From reading up on the net, it appears that Windows Live Essentials is no longer supported for Vista and so I now cannot download it onto my new computer which has Vista. I was going to buy a brand new computer but a lot of my software would need to be upgraded.

I think it's time to start using something else for emails. What I liked about Windows Live Essentials is being able to have all of your email accounts set up and being able to receive and send from any of them. When I used Outlook, this was not possible.

I have managed to export my messages from within Windows Live Essentials but a lot of them are missing and I don't know why?
  • Outlook.com allows you to send emails from any account.
They changed it a few months ago.
  • I've now managed to get my computer to stay on long enough to be able to get into Windows Live Essentials and export my messages.

When I then import it onto my laptop, half of the emails are missing. Particularly the outbox. I've no idea why it is doing this. When I'm in WLE all of the emails are there and readable. I'm selecting all folders when I export.

It is driving me up the wall!
