  • Hi Trixie,

Learning a different way of shopping doesn't come easy. It took me about a year to downgrade from Sainsbury's to Asda. I now shop mostly at Tescos because I have a clubcard and I am saving for my Christmas food shopping.

My weakness is branded items on special offer, as even though I am debt-busting I don't feel too deprived. However I am currently doing a monthly challenge and I am trying to stay in budget so I am buying value items. For the most part the value items taste the same as the branded items, just a lot cheaper.

You've already realised what you need to do next time, go to Aldi first.

  • Hi Moneymash.. thanks for passing by..

Guilty here, love branded items too... :o But, I am now going for value items like you.

I must say that I owe this to my son's nappies because it's the only nappies that works for him. So, I am obliged to shop there once a month but now it's my premier shop. :T

Went to the center today... BF invited for a dinner at a Greeks Restaurant. He said he is not that feeling hungry yet so he ordered one starter and one main meal - we shared.

I passed by an oriental store and bought only one item - a bag of rice and nothing. The very first time that I went in there that I bought only what I needed and nothing more. No chips, no sales and no nothing else..

    So proud of myself.

  • Monday -

I finally went to Parking Office to get a paid a six month pass for me to park my car at my new place. Costs me €32. It will cost me €18 every six month - a lot cheaper than what I used to pay at my old place which is around €80.

After the visit, i went to the Open/farmers Market and bought several veggies, meats, and fruits. Save me a lot. Looks like i am back to where I used to, saves me a lot of money by the bucket and more food rather thank going back and forth at the grovery store.

LESSON: always make a grocery/market list of what to buy rather than randomly picking what's in the market.

Spend €63.5 for a probable use of 10 days meal or more and some will be used for birthday meal for tomorrow.

  • Hi Trixie, just found your diary. Well done for trying to change your spending habits and get yourself debt free while your Son is so young.

These things all take time so don't beat yourself up for a few slip ups. We've all done it. You need to make mistakes to learn from them.

Well done for making your Son's meals too. A lot healthier and cheaper. I also suggest using the old style board. They are fantastic and someone will always have an idea or solution for most problems. So friendly so no need to be shy :)

Will be following your journey. Good luck and well done for the changes you have made so far x

  • hello sammr85, thanks for passing by and for the tip about going to the old style board.

I am already thinking of creating a thread over there because the first time I visited that board, oh i could not stop myself from reading every links that suggests almost everything. So useful...

Thank goodness that I stumble into this site otherwise I would still be lost and trying to figure how and where to start sorting my debt problems.ds

  • Put some baby stuff on sale online - one is already going to be off on the list (soon). Not making money but atleast it is worth penny rather than rubbish lying around my house. Hope to sell more stuff.

  • There goes €100 worth of a big box of goodies going to my home country. I needed to send nappies, wipes and of course gifts for the family plus candies and chocolatess. The price of going home on Christmas day.

    For now, i need healing.

  • Today, BF finally gave me my birthday gift. I told him not to buy me anything because I couldn't bear the thought of him spending money over a gift. I am telling him to just save the money.

Well he insisted and it wasn't an item at all. He transferred €1000 into my account and he said that he hope it will help me in my situation now. There is no way I am going to say no to this... Big help.
