Boiler Quotes

Hi All,

I wasn't sure where to post this and im sure you have had hundreds of posts like this before - sorry for asking the same question over again but im a damsel in distress.

I'm wondering what is the best deal/quote for a replacement combi boiler. I live in a 2 bedroom terraced house which has 6 radiators and a shower that runs off the boiler.

Plumber #1

Worcester 29 CDi Classic combi boiler and wireless thermostat with a 7 Yr Warranty for £2060

Plumber #2

Worcester 29 CDi Classic combi boiler and wireless thermostat with a 5 Yr Warranty for £1800

Valliant Ecotec Plus 831HE combi boiler and wireless thermostat with a 5 Yr warranty for £1820

Plumber #3

Baxi Platinum 28kw Condensing Combination Boiler and wireless thermostat with a 10 Yr warranty for £1850 - he also said as i would be getting it done near when the new regulations for a carbon monoxide detecor to be installed in oct that he would fit one for free end of sept and also do the work on a sat if suited to save me taking a day off work.

Plumber #4

Ariston E combi evo 24HE plus thermostat and 2 Yr warranty for £1200

Worcester junior 24 HE plus thermostat and 5Yr warranty for £1560

I'm just wondering whats a good deal - I plan to stay in the house for another 5 years.

Thanks in advance.

three things missing from above which you may not have listed
has any of them allowed for trv's on the rads ? (apart from the one where the room stat is) unless you already have them
flush (power or manual chemical) ?
    magnetic filter ?

don't worry about plumber no 4 out of the other boilers listed i wouldn't fit either of those as the other boilers are better
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

All plumbers are doing manual clean with some chemical. I already have TRV's on all rads.

Plumber 1 never mentioned anything about a filter. Plumber 2 said it included all materials and plumber 3 said a tf1 magnetic filer. All plumbers included a chemical inhibitor also.
  • if it's not on the quote then you won't be getting one, from the info you have supplied i'd go with no 3 however i'd change the TF1 for a magnaclean pro 2 it might be slightly dearer but it's a far better product, 10 years on the boiler so providing you get him to service it every year you have no worries

Thanks - I was swaying between plumber 2 and 3. I will email plumber 2 about the magnetic filer and ask no 3 for price on the magnaclean pro.

To be honest I find them a tad expensive for a days work. Also, how many bathrooms do you have? I think the 29Cdi may be oversized for your dwelling. Did any of the plumbers do a heat calculation for total output?

Combis are sized for DHW not heating. A day's work...quality job I think not.

Just a small pointer. RGIs install boilers not plumbers. Hope you've got one.

I'm not getting embroiled in another dimwitted discussion with you that will ultimately prove nothing. My opinion is it is too expensive given the minor information we have to base our assumptions on, there are companies on the internet that offer better packages than "plumber 1,2,3 & 4" have offered. This site is all about saving money and I fell the OP can get a better deal does that give you license to mock me?

Anyway I don't want to cause animosity on this board as it is clear there are a few "old heads" who seem to have this part of the board all sewn up so I will refrain from posting on here again. I feel my advice is obviously more suited to industrial/commercial environment and not the handyman/house bashing sector.

All the best for the future.
