Tax Disc

I've been off work on holiday during which time the tax disc expired on my works van. I pointed this out to a manager at my depot, who has contacted the transport dept. Transport are saying that the lease company posted the tax disc to our old address (same road about half a mile down) and that they will resend it and that I am still ok to drive the van on public roads (it's over the 5 days allowed). What I'm concerned about is if I would be prosecuted if the police were to stop me, or if it would be my company's responsibility? Cheers

The only people that check the actual disc these days are nosey neighbours.
VED checking is done by APNR, the disc is a remnant of the old way of doing things. I believe your given two weeks to display it, but in truth I doubt it'd get noticed.

  • I drove our works van around for three months before I noticed the tax disc was expired. The disc was sat in someone's drawer at head office...

As long as it was applied for, by post or on-line, on or before the expiry of the old licence, there is 14 days grace for the offence of failing to display.

If the disc is noticed by someone in power then it's more likely that a FPN would be attached to the vehicle for the Registered Keeper rather than the driver.

  • Thanks for your replies..I've now got the tax disc, it was found under a shutter on the opposite side of the building from the main entrance! Another fine example of Royal Mail delivery lol
