    Did you put the correct details into the router? Really you should be making sure the router connects fine to the internet first when wired with the ethernet cable and then go wireless after that is working.

    thats what i did i think! i tried it on my pc first and it wouldn't work, so i never tried it on my laptop.

    Did you disconnect the original modem? i.e. the new router replaces your original modem/USB cable.

    i didn't remove the modem software, could that be the problem?

    Possibly, you certainly don't need it if you're using the router/modem.
