New house new supplier
Hello folks,
I will keep this short.
My wife and I are moving to a new rented property this coming Friday.
Due to illness, debts and other problems we have a £2000 balance on Gas and Electric from the old property, this is solely in my name.
When we move we are looking to setting up a new account with either the supplier at the property or if they are the same as our current one swtiching, this will be solely in my wifes name.
Before anyone thinks this is me trying to avoid debt it is not the case, the previous supplier is named and on my DMP with Stepchange and will be paid in full, we would just rather start fresh with a new (much lower!) monthly payment in the new place to keep everything clean.
Any problems anyone can see with this? The debt is solely in my name, my wife has never had a utility contract in her own, I know should I choose to switch I would need to pay the balance in full before I could do that.

This should (in theory) be fine.
When you move into a property, you are in a deemed contract with the current supplier. You should register the name of the bill payer (wife) on the day you arrive, and she can either choose the best tariff with the existing supplier, or organise a change to whomever she chooses. The change will take approx. 5-6 weeks.0 -
Hi , you probably already know but you have to register with the current supplier at the new house even if it is the same company you already owe money to ....in which case you might have problems switching....if it is a different supplier you should be able to register with them and then switch as soon as you want.0
