Late Credit Card Payment

Hi,

I accidentally forgot to pay my credit card. I made the payment 10 days after it was due. I read somewhere that if you make a payment within 30 days after the due date it will not appear as a late payment on your credit report - is that the case?

How much does a late payment affect mortgage applications? I am in the process of applying for a mortgage and I've been keeping my credit report squeaky clean for the past 2 years.

Thanks

Policies vary from lender to lender.

Imposisible to quantify, but it shouldn't be the end of the world if everything else is ok on your file. Impact diminishes with time though, so your timing's not great.

Depends on when your credit card company report to the CRA. If they report on the 15th and you paid on the 10th you should be ok.

If you have access to your credit files see when it was last updated.
  • So the bank have refunded my late payment charge as it wasn't my fault - Statement shows my attempt to pay but some online fault prevented it going through.

Next thing is how do you get your credit file updated to reflect this? I was told to send a notice of correction but from my understanding this is just a note on your file explaining the charge. Can you get it removed completely?

Speak to the bank and they should correct it by informing the cra.
