Wife bad credit file afect me getting mortgage?

My wife has a very bad credit file many defaults but from years ago.

Will it affect me getting a mortgage? Or do I have to wait until her defaults are 6 years old?

    Are you financially linked to her (such as a joint current account or loan)? If not then her details will not appear on your credit search.

    We do have a joint account but its not been used for years. Shall I close it then?

    look at your credit files and see what they say

    If it shows a financial association, then yes, close it and file a notice of disassociation with all the CRAs which it appears.
