British Museum Pompeii Tickets

We'd love to go and visit the Pompeii exhibition before it ends at the end of September but it seems that all advanced tickets are now sold out.
However it seems there are some tickets available each day if you arrive early enough.

We'd be coming from Manchester specially.
Does anyone know from experience how likely it would be to get in if we tried this? What time would we need to arrive to stand the best chance of getting tickets? How long would we have to wait for our entry?
Any information would be most appreciated...

  • You'd probably be better off asking the BM themselves but it won't be a matter of a long queue - you'll turn up and buy tickets for several hours later so you can go and look at the rest of the museum and have lunch (there's a nice Thai place in Museum Street opposite the main entrance) and do some other bits of sight-seeing while waiting.
