FTB - Advice needed

Hi
This may sound like a really stupid question but I need some advice.
Me and my boyfriend are FTBs. We have just had an offer accepted on a property.
I know that we now need to finalise our mortgage and to arrange for the mortgage company to do a valuation. However I am unsure of when we need to contact a solicitor. Will we need to do this now?

It amazes me actually how people invest in the biggest asset of their lives and dont even research it! Anyway what you need to do now is formally apply for your mortgage so they can do the valuation etc and instruct the solictors so you can get the searches underway0

Actually I have done loads of research in to this. It is not something I have done lightly. I am not stupid but I am not a expert on house buying either.
This is the first time I have posted on here and don't think I will bother anymore if everyone is as rude as you.
I was just a little bit confused as everything I read was slightly different so I need some clarifation in to what to do0 -
I would contact a solicitor now that you have an offer accepted. The sooner the better, then you can get your searches underway. If you are worried you might not be accepted for the mortgage, you might want to hang on before instructing your solicitor and requesting searches to be carried out.

I assume you have an AIP ?.
If not, get one before you contact a solicitor.
If you have, contact one now to get your searches etc.. started because they can take a while.
Most importantly get your full mortgage application in as that can take between 3 - 7 weeks (as in my case 7) it only takes one numpty to mislay something to set you back weeks.
Then keep on top of everyone & push them along.
Very best of luck with it all, its a stressfull time.

Joanne, Im in exactly the same position as you, my boyfriend and i are FTBs and we have been researching how the house-buying process works via the internet and im still unsure about what exactly needs doing first. :rolleyes:
Put in an offer, offer accepted, inform IFA, sort mortgage, instruct solicitor, get surveys done. Simple enough, but i dont know whether its better to instruct the solicitor straight away to get the searches on the go, or to wait till the Mortgage Lender has done a valuation and survey????
We have been saving for ages for the deposit, legal costs, etc. and dont really want to waste any money on instructing a solicitor and paying for searches and fees if it turns out the valuation is lower than the price we offered or the survey uncovering costly repairs that need to be done.
