Car and V5
I'm buying a friend's car. The friend is leaving the country in a week.
He was given the car after he sold his and he duly sent off the V5 to the DVLA for the transfer of ownership to his name
I agreed to take the car, but obviously the V5 is still with the DVLA.
There's every chance the V5 will come back in his name this week, which is all OK. However, if it doesn't, his address won't be occupied after this week. So what can happen here?
Is there any way we can call the DVLA and change who the V5 will be addressed to?

No, it is a declaration of registration to place the item in trust, it has to be signed in case there is any dispute if the officials or servants of the crown and DVLA want to seize the car back from the keeper.
The VC5 transfers Keeper Liability, it needs a wet signature of both parties.Be happy...;)0 -
Options are:
1 - hope it turns up in time
2 - see if there's any way to get access to the property to collect his mail - landlord etc
3 - tell him to have his mail re-directed so you can get it
4 - you can claim new ownership of the car to request a new V5. Can't remember which form it is but you send it off to the DVLA and they try to contact the previous owner to make sure it's legit. If there's no issue (ie the old owner says it's been sold or they don't reply) they'll give you a new V5 but the process takes a few weeks..
edit... found it, it's a V62 form and costs £25. http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_067819.pdf0
