Is my PC on the way out??

Options
Hi, just wondered if anyone can help? My PC of late has been slow, very slow to start up and then just generally slow.

Also sometimes when Windows starts up, half of the picture is missing and the whole start up screen seems to have moved over to the right.

I have AVG and Spybot and neither of these have detected any viruses. I have recently got rid of Norton but did this with the Norton Clean up as has been advised on here.

I am running Windows XP home edition and use AOL.

Does anyone have any ideas?....If poss in plain English! lol

Thanks in advance!

sometimes the free software misses stuff. download a trail of Bitdefender and run that.

Also have a look at your startup items and see what you can stop running. Realaudio, Quicktime and loads of other programs load programs when the computer starts and you don't need them

Do you do 'housework' on your PC =like scan disc & defraging?

This sounds like the monitor may be on its way out to me or maybe certain sites/games are reseting your monitor settings

I have added my thoughts above in blue but I'm not an expert
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

download AOL's antivirus uses kaspersky antivirus search engine and it's free ,
do a defrage(mite take a few hours) and scan put i suspect it mite be a harddrive that is on it's way out if it is slow (when i say slow it seems to take a long time to open a file )if it is not it mite be wise to safe all your work, pics,or any important stuff on your pc to a cd/dvd if you can and make a note off all your password using pen and paper and the websites you go to ,just in case it go's altogether .
if after you have done all the (run scan disc & defraging ,antivirusm, and saved all your stuff you can) and still the same ,i would do a full restore
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff
