Redundancy proceedure

Options
Hi,

I could really use some advice here.

I work in IT. Specifically I'm the IT Manager for a professional services company. It has circa 60 employees and at the moment I'm the only one in the IT dept.

My boss has just told me, casually not officially, that he's taking advice from 3rd parties as to whether he needs an in-house IT person or whether he can "get away" with using external support providers.

Should he have not put me under some sort of notice or something? I'm not familiar with employment/redundancy law but I'm sure I should have been given some formal notification that my job is under threat.

If it helps, I've been with the company for just over 5 years.

Please let me know if you need any further information etc.

Cheers,

Flounder.

Maybe he will do just that once he has established whether he can 'get away' with using an external provider? If he can't, then no notice is required.

Maybe he shouldn't have actually said anything until he was certain but I don't think he has actually done anything wrong yet. I would probably start looking for another job though as it isn't looking good!
