Gap Insurance trying to wiggle out of a claim???

Hello everyone and sorry to start with an issue (I think).
I bought my car in 2010 and took out a gap insurance but last month my car was written off through a fault of my own, I hit a bollard. My insurance paid out within 2 weeks of it being declared a total loss. I informed my gap insurers when I learnt the car might be written off and they advised of the price to accept from my car insurers. I have since sent my gap insurers all the documentation they need including the invoice which I had to get from the dealer I got my car from as I couldn't find the original invoice. I have been calling them every week and each time I call, its always its with the validations team, its with the underwriters, we are waiting for the engineers report from the insurers.
Yesterday, I called them up and was passed on to the validations team who then informed me I am to have a telephone interview to ascertain the full facts and details of the claim.
I am confused as I thought "if your car insurers pays out, we would pay out" was the case and I had even told/explained to them what happened as per the accident.
I maybe jumping the gun here but are they trying to wiggle out of a claim?
what should I expect from the interview?

These interviews are pretty standard really. They are cognitive. You may have done these previously. They ask you loads of questions, of which appear to be very similar. Nothing to worry about. Just answer the questions they ask.The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0

Thanks huckster, I was just wondering why they would need to do an interview when my insurance has already paid out and also police were called to the accident scene. I still have not gotten another car as I am waiting for them, going too a month now...0

They are ensuring nothing untoward in this self inflicted situation.
Insurers don't normally pay out on the nod if they consider anything unusual in the circumstances.0
