How to kill a network id

Trying to hook MIL laptop up to a new broad band provider. Originally it was set up with an id (call it ABC)and "linked" to a netgear router by the Currys Tech Boys. It worked faultlessly (i think). Router was then piggy backed onto a cable router.

The laptop was working wireless through the netgear router which was hard wired into one of the Lan ports on the cable router. Any other wireless device could access without the need for passwords.

She has now moved and had to give up the cable. A new ADSL router was provided by Virgin. The laptop recognised the the new router working alone but could not hold a connection. It was as though the old ABC was overriding it. It would allow broadband access for seconds then loose the connection, it would then hunt as though it was trying to continually reconnect.

In network manger I tried to delete ABC but it would not let me and it always took priority. It appears as though deleted but would refresh and back to stage 1. I could add new ids and delete them OK.

The laptop could access broadband hard-wired via a lan port. Other wireless devices could access using the new router password.

In the end the netgear router was added and laptop access was restored through ABC.

Have now swapped to talktalk. Broadband went live and the same problem is occurring. The talktalk Setup CD has been used. The talktalk id is displayed but again is being overridden by ABC. Other wireless devices connect OK.

I live a distance away and ran out of time so have simply added the netgear router back in so broadband is available for now again through ABC.

Any ideas how I can delete the ABC id?

it cant connect to a router thats turned off

control panel, networks, manage wireless, delete abc, switch off abc, put in a box

or login to tt router, change the ssid to abc, and the password to whatever abc's password was.

    Thanks.

I did switch of disconnect ABC router and old virgin one leaving just the talktalk one live.

    It still couldn't connect.

Switching the SSID may be the way forward as you suggest. I will try next time I am with down with MIL.
