Mitts/Muff for Mobility Scooter?

Hi - just getting prepared fro winter,
I like going out and about on my scooter in all weathers - but find my hands, especially the right thumb which holds the lever, get frozen.
I have fake sheepskin mittens and also have those round gel hand warmers inside which work well but my poor thumb gets frozen.

I have seen these scooter mitts but they sell for between £30-50. Was thinking of making some of my own but does anyone have any brainwaves of an easy way?
Thought I'd make them big enough to use over gloves.

I don't know, but would you not be worried that in the event of tipping over / falling off you'd not be able to put your hands out to break your fall? Maybe that's the least of your worries in such an event ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

Well never toppled yet in in about 15 years - not even on a three wheeler.
Was thinking of just mocking up something similar - more loose and maybe just the right hand - I was experimenting last night with a quilted hood off a coat - something that size and with fastenings and I have some fur stuff to line it with so wouldn't be so 'enclosed' as what is shown.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
I got some ski gloves from Sports Direct for a fiver.
Big thick gloves that the wind and cold just can't penetrate.
Don't see any advantage to joining them in the middle though.0 -
What about trying something like this - then you would have free use of your hands and stay warm at the same time.
I've been thinking about getting somefor my parents when they go out on their scooter.
