They've Lost My Pension- who do I get mad at?

Hello out there!

I'm in a bit of a pickle and after being passed from pillar to post by the companies that are supposed to be helping me, I wondered if anyone here could offer some advice?

I left my last job in July, having made 2 months contributions to my pension after auto enrolment. Since starting with my new employer, I have opened a new pension fund and would like to move my pension from my previous job to the new one so it's all in one pot.
I initially tried the HR/payroll department at my previous employer. They passed me the details of BenPal as they process my pension.
BenPal's service is absolutely appalling. I have tried to avoid 0845 line as it would cost me a fortune, so emailed to explain the situation. It has taken several days for anyone to respond and responses are blunt, contradictory and never answer my question fully.
After a month of going back and forth between emails, they told me my pension is with Now Pensions who should send me a leaver's pack explaining my options since I left my job.
I contacted Now Pensions via email (again avoiding the 0845 line). They replied once to ask for more details which I have them, then I have never had a response since. I have up and called them and they say they can't see me on their system at all and they have no details of a pension with them.
I have since been back to my previous HR department who insist that it's BenPal that should be responsible for my pension now and who should know where it is. BenPal tell me it's my employer or Now Pensions responsibility and they can't help me since I left my job. Now pensions won't help as they have no details for me! I really don't know what to do.
I'm not talking about a huge some of money as it was only 2 months of contributions, but nevertheless it is my money and I would rather it was in my hands than lost in the ether somewhere. Can anyone please offer any advice as to what to do next?? I'd really really appreciate it as this has been ongoing since July.

Thank you!!!
