Advice needed!! Or I may Be An Ex Mummy!

Hi all... not sure where to post this!

I am not sure how... but youngest DD's bright yellow sweatshirt has got some bleach spots on it!

Does anyone know if I get a bright yellow dye will it cover the bleach spots? Or will it stay pale?

Many thanks...

Bleach can burn the fabric so the area cannot be over dyed, unless the bleach had been washed off straightaway.

By not getting the top into cold water to rinse out the bleach it has had time to rot the material. How effective a permanent magic marker would be now is questionable. Plus trying to match the colour will be difficult. I think the top may be a gonner!

Dont felt pen it, try a dylon dye, even if you need to dye it another colour.

Failing all of that, ask her if you can borrow it because you love it so much and have seen one of your friends wear one just like it. She'll never go near it again :)

Nothing works - believe me I know! I have a drawer full of tops that have a bleach spot line somewhere around "work top" level - from wiping down worktops with bleach whilst wearing decent clothes :(

Not very MSE, I know - but you're going to have to buy a new top for offspring if you do not want to be an ex-mummy - but use the top as an example of the fact that (a) bleach ruins clothes and (b) even super mums can make mistakes!!

No matter how you cover the colour shortly you will have a hole.
  • I have a pair of black socks with orange soles, which my wife choose to wear to clean the bathroom floor. They look weird, but they haven't developed holes yet.

I've got bleach on quite a few items - I've never had holes, just pale pink splodges. IME, they can't be hidden. Can you replace it?

Perhaps you could repair it together by covering the bleach spots with some beading or embroidery? Like this T-shirt that gets some pretty pearl embellishments, using very simple sewing.
