old name on passport

My passport expired in 2006 and it is in my maiden name, Im now thinking of getting a new one but theres a problem.
I have since married and divorced since I first got the passport, for ease at the time of divorce I kept my married name.
I apparantly need a copy of my decree absolute to send off so that I can change my name on the passport, no idea where it is, almost certainly lost and would need to apply for another.
I have toyed with the idea of permantly going back to my maiden name but the thought of changing everything is just :eek:  and so ive just not bothered.:p maybe its the kick up the bum I need lol
So what would you lovely folks do in my situation?
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D

  • Contact the court where the divorce, dissolution or annulment took place to get a copy of a decree absolute or final order.

If you know the case number, a copy of a decree absolute or final order costs £5.
If you don’t know the case number, the cost is £45.
If you don't know which court it was then you can ask the Principal Registry of the Family Division to search for the decree absolute or final order. This will cost £65.

  • Go back to your maiden name. That's what I did and it was the best thing I did. Didn't take much to change all my stuff over.

If you have kept your married name, why do you need the decree absolute? surely a marriage cert is needed to show a change of name from your maiden name to your married name.

I too would have thought it's your marriage certificate you would need, to get it in your married name.x
  • I had to give in my marriage cert when I got divorced so thats not an option and as for the marriage comment, ive been married once, was abused so divorced and been single ever since so thats hardly the problem!

I kept my married name when I divorced and all I've ever been asked for since (including passport) is my marriage certificate.
