When I try to look at my email,it goes straight to Microsoft asking for an alternative email address so that they can send me a security code if I lose access to my account. If I don't comply within 6 days my account will be blocked. Is this legit?

I had the same thing, although I didn't see anything about locking the account. I think its legit, but I'm not sure what it proves to them other than you actually do have access to your alternate account.0

Yes I had that and someone else on here.
I am lucky as I have a Virgin email as well and used it. They lock you out if you try too many times for 24 hours.
It is legit. Why they are suddenly to doing this, no idea???0 -
Because they want to know more about you, to be able to own you.
Email address now, next it will be your mobile number, then it will be your passport number.
All leading to them owning you and your family.
They want to rule the world...mwahahah!0 -
But is it Ok for me to do what they want or is it a scam? Can somebody tell me please?0

Is it spam????
Who knows, but if you want to use your outlook/hotmail email address you have to comply
They didn't seem to care before when my hotmail account was hacked about 18 months ago. Now suddenly its WE ARE DOING THIS FOR YOUR SECURITY!!!!:rotfl:0 -
In the past we have seen many posters on here outraged that as they have forgotten their password they are now totally unable to access the account forever as they have also forgotten their security questions answers as well.
So I would have thought everyone would have welcomed this.....obviously not0
