How does a seller cancel a transaction when...

Heres a new one for you..
I had an item sell, the buyer didn't pay, Ebay kicked in with its NPB procedure, buyer then paid and case closed.
I've only gone and bloody dropped the item today and broken it while trying to package it.
I've contacted the buyer and believe they will accept a transaction cancellation but whenever I go to try and do it in the resolution centre it says a case has been closed for this item and I can't open a transaction cancellation.
Any ideas?

Send a photo and apology to the buyer (to save negative feedback thinking you were trying to not fulfil their order) and ring CS. They will do a manual credit.
Or if you are good terms with the buyer, you can ask them to open a 'I want to return' in the resolution. But it's a fag really. You cocked up so you should do the leg work.0 -
Honestly I'm not too worried about a fee credit or feedback (oddly theyve already left me fb!) but just wanted to make sure I got them their money back 'properly'.
It sounds like it might just be easier to refund via paypal?0 -
Always refund via Paypal if that's how they paid, there is a refund link in the transaction.
The Paypal fees are automatic, less 20p, so it's just the EBay FVF that you lose out on, unless you ring them to manually credit.0
