Automatically rolled onto new ridiculous contract!

We have been a bit of muddle with paper work, and now seem to have been automatically rolled over onto a new contract with opus. We have gone from paying 8.9p per unit to 17p per unit! Opus have told us there is no get out claus and we are stuck with it for another 12months. We run a farm so use an awful lot of electricity as we have no gas.
Is there no way out at all?

any help greatly appriciated

So you're a business user? (Opus is a business energy supplier)

Unfortunately, in business you have to ensure you read any contract before you agree to it. Presumably the contract says it will roll over to a new contract if you don't cancel ... and usually in business energy supply contracts, such notice to cancel needs to be given about 3 months ahead of time.
  • yes we are farm, it seems all the paperwork has gone missing not having someone in the office for a while everything is everywhere. I suppose it comes as a warning to others to make sure you renew, rather then let your contract roll-over. As it seems there is nothing that can be done, once they have renewed on your behalf.
Was hoping there may be a loop-hole somewhere so we can get out of the contract somehow.
  • These self renewing SME contracts are an absolute disgrace, and OFGEM need to take a serious look into it. The silver lining is there are rumours the major suppliers are in the process of getting rid of them - however OPUS aren't a major supplier.

Unfortunately the business energy market at the moment is a joke, if some of the people that whine about their £500 domestic bill only knew......

See term 2.3 of how to get out of the contract :)
