Laptop spec Question

Do I go for :

a) i5 + 1 GB dedicated graphics
or
b) i7 + integrated graphics

Same RAM, same SSD, similar clock speed. I'm not a gamer and I'll be mainly doing software development so doing lots of writing to disk.

Any opinions?

If it's not for gaming or heavy graphical work, I'd lean towards the i7. Are they the same generation of Intel processors?
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler
  • That depends on the relative price. For software development both machines are much of a muchness - memory would be the important thing, if you're going to run a lot of virtual machines.

    That and a comfy keyboard.

Both 3rd gen. I was looking on the Dell outlet and the i5 has gone now, so looks like that's my decision made for me!

I had been looking on the Dell outlet at XPS 13 and 14 machines. The i7 was an XPS 13 and the i5 was an XPS14, the 14 seems to have gone now so I'll go with the i7. Both machines had 8GB of ram, the i5 was approx £50 more, tho i think it may have had a 512 SSD as opposed 256 in the i7.
