Can anyone tell me how this benefit works?
I know only the interest is paid but hiw often is it paid in termsbof length.
If for example had the mortgage interest paid for 2 years, found a job that only ladted for a short time.
Then I suppose after a qualifying period of 3 months then they could have mortgage help for a further 2 years.
Is this correct or is it a one off claim?
Hope someone can clear up any confusion.
Thsnk you

For a start you have to be on income based JSA (means tested). This normally only happens after someone has been on Contributions based JSA for 6 months, but it can be paid sooner if there are no savings over £6k or other income from a partner.
There would also normally be a 13 week waiting period if on IB JSA from start. It then technically goes on for 2 years. The interest amount paid by DWP is 3.63% and this goes direct to your lender every 4 weeks in arrears. The maximum Capital they will cover is up to £200k and it will only be on the original borrowed amount. So watch out if you have remortgaged.
If you get a job and lose it after 12 weeks or less then the SMI will start up again without the normal waiting period and the original 2 years will recommence.
If you click on this link nd then click on the 3rd one down it will take you to a PDF and it is section 3.6 that you need to read.
