M and S Card Safe and PPI compensation

My wife received a letter from CPP stating she may be entitled to compensation for her M and S Card Safe. She has been told they will write to her within 12 weeks after an investigation. Has anyone already received compensation for the M and S Card Safe ior is in the process of making a claim. Until we received this letter we never considered this could possibly be a claim situation for mis-selling, what is the situation here. She held this "Card" for a number of years. Any feedback will appreciated.

youn only pay about £20 a year for CPP, so it's not likely to be a huge amount of money.

I got one too in the post, like you hadn't even thought of it. I just shredded it and will wait and see what the next one says. I don't think I had mine more than a couple of years but hey, if its 40 quid, it will pay for a nice meal out for me and the OH.

Just wait and see, that's all I can suggest.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • We had the same letter and propose to sit and wait. We have held this card for about 10 years so don't know what percentage per year we would expect to receive as compensation. i would suspect it may be about 5% of the total spent. Does that sound about correct!!

no, it sounds like you're wanting it to be 5%.

    wait and see.

  • I am looking after my uncles affairs as he is unfortunately suffering with dementia. I have discovered a letter from cpp regarding card protection and have related this back to a card safe scheme he took out with M&S in 1990. I was just wondering whether anyone knew if I could apply on his behalf for the mis selling of this product to him? He was paying £53/month by DD.
    Thanks

Technically, the deadline for complaints to CPP has passed. However, you can now complain on his behalf and see what happens.

The likely outcome is that CPP will say you are too late.

However, you can then go to the Financial Ombudsman Service and argue that the dementia amounts to "exeptional circumstances", which prevented a complaint being made until somebody acting on your uncle's behalf was able to identify it.

FOS may help but will probably want medical evidence.

You should go to CPP and complain first. Make sure you include the reference to the dementia and that the complaint comes either from a Power of Attorney or court appointed Deputy.

I had an M&S Card Safe policy from 1999, they dealt with my complaint not CPP.

I agree any complaint from pre-2005 is not part of the long-closed CPP refund scheme. OP should approach Marks & Spencer...

I went with the CPP about the M&S card safe I'd paid - got about £130 back - not loads but it all helps! I googled about CPP and read upon here and decided to try and it worked.
