Dreams (Bed Co.) Cancellations

Hi,
Is there anyone that can help?
We are trying to cancel our bed order from Dreams but they are going to charge us 20% of the order value!! We were never told that we needed to cancel within 24hrs but 14 days (which is the standard period for most companies). We went into the shop we ordered it from and gave back the bad free mattress protector and they said no problem just call this number and they will cancel. But when we called they said we have to pay 20% cancellation charge even if we change the order.
What can we do?

On the basis you went back in store I assume the sale was done in store?
If it was, then in the first instance read the contract that you signed and see what it states for cancellation fees.
If you agreed to the cancellation fee you will have a job arguing under the unfair contracts act that 20% isnt the average cost to the company for all cancellations outside of the specified period.
Are you planning on getting another bed or just abandoning the idea? You have more chances of getting it waived to get something else than if you are just cancelling full stop0
