Not really, so long as they're not a totally seized windback caliper, there's not a lot can't be solved with a windback kit, a vice, a wire brush and a small compressor. As a last resort, I've blown seized pots out on the driveway using my tyre inflator plenty of times.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Sounds more than fair on pricing, for that work to be done. Keep that garage sweet. We need places like that to remain in business.

FWIW, I can do both calipers and discs on my own drive in an hour or less. the hardest part is jacking the car up and getting the wheels off! It's one of those jobs I'll never pay anyone to do again, if I can in any way avoid it.

A friend and I pulled his front brake calipers off and completely rebuilt them with new seals before a race, it took 90 mins to do both sides. It really is simple straight forwards work with the help available on the internet.

The only problems you come across are seized bolts and stuck pad retention pins. A good set of sockets and a breaker bar are usually all you need. Occasaionally discs have welded themselves to hub faces, which requires judicious use of a bloody big hammer.

Surely, a lot of garages wont fit your own stuff?

The big chains won't it's where lots of their profit is. Most small independent garages are happy to do so, but you lose the guarantee they may have given you regarding parts they supplied themselves.
I certainly never had a problem with my local 3 lift garage fitting parts I'd got myself and just paying labour, but I'd never walk into a dealer and expect them to do that.
  • Took me, 1 hour to do the disks and pads on a honda accord, which required me to spend money on a brake rewind tool costing £25, at machine mart.

GSM supplied the parts for £56.

Dealer wanted £250, and backstreet £120 - they would have itemised the parts as £85 despite getting a trade discount.

Simple jobs like this we need to be teaching our children to do.

Other tools I used : Axle stands, socket for wheel nuts, and a jack.

yes, and I can fully understand that. When you buy your own parts you buy it for a lot more money than the garage will buy. Normally the price difference goes to the garages pockets. Which is fair dos, garages have overheads and they're worth their £50 an hour they charge.

They will probably refuse the install your parts, say that warranty on parts are void so you cannot go back to the garage if part fails (which is fair because they will invoice you for labour only, not parts).

Failing that they might charge you more for labour if you bring your own parts.
