Got a family friend who's current pc has developed problems with on-board graphics and sound. Display now defaults to 640X480 with 16 colour, despite it still recognising his graphic adatper.
Don't ask me what type of adapter - no idea at the moment.

I'm off round to try an old graphics card of mine in a few mins, but if it doesn't work, he is considering buying a new base unit. He has a very old slow Tiny pc, so it would be worth getting a new base.

He has NTL boradband and has told me that they are not compatible with Vista ? Not had that confirmed anywhere else yet.

So, anyone got confirmation ? And any suggestions on where to get a base unit from a retailer like pc world, with XP and not vista ?
Karma is a wonderful thing. ;)

The video thing may just be a driver issue, try start, help, system restore.

If he has a router, or uses an ethernet connection to the cable modem, then they don't need any software or drivers to work, so vista isn't an issue.

But if you really want an XP PC, try Dell, or ebuyer.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I'd be wary about getting vista at the moment particularly if your friend has other hardware to attach to the PC (printers, scanners etc.) as there may not be drivers to enable them to work with vista. Do some checks first to make sure the drivers are available and the ISP will work with vista as some don't yet.

I would certainly recommend Dell - guys on here pointed me in that direction a few weeks ago and I picked up great system with XP...
